Engine Performance

Engine Performance

Engine is 125cc mill, same as in Honda Stunner.
Difference between Honda and Hero is in tuning of this engine.

Hero tuned engine as:
Max. Power:             8.20 kW ( 11 bhp ) @ 8000 rpm
Max. Torque            11 N-m @ 5000 rpm

Honda tuned engine as:
Max. Power:             8.20 kW ( 11 bhp ) @ 8000 rpm
Max. Torque            11 N-m @ 6500 rpm

Generally gear shifting is a little hard in new bikes but that’s not the case with this Baby. From day one it is surprisingly smooth. Easy gear shifting in all kind of speed and riding scenario. Whether I am in market area struggling to find way or in free highway, no problem at all.

Due to torque at a low RPM it can easily ride between couple of gears in a range of speed.
For example you can ride in fourth gear from 20kmph to 50kmph without any problem. Or if you are riding in fifth at 60kmph, do sudden braking and get bike at 25-30kmph, you can again just give a little acceleration and get back to 50-60kmph speed without changing gear. It cruises ahead with great enthusiasm and energy. It's just so smooth. Due to that smooth nature sometimes because of distractions on road (beautiful scenes or beautiful girls, whatever pleases you) or because I am enjoying the ride like I am flying, I forget in which gear I am riding. Its then a guessing game. Is it 3rd, 4th or 5th gear? Well, it Doesn't matter. Just Ride On…!
I must say, it’s a great traffic friendly bike.

One issue I like to address.
Some Ignitor owners complaint of gear shifting problem while shifting down from 5th to 4th or 4th to 3rd, 2nd. Sometimes when bike goes from 50kmph to 20kmph while braking and you go for shifting gear from 5th to 4th/3rd, suddenly bike goes into Neutral & Clutch Plates inside the engine start playing Dandiya.

Well I felt this problem only once till this date. One friend of mine was facing this issue from quite some months with his stunner. But now it's over.

The trick is driving properly. Whenever you slow down, you need to lower your gear too according to the speed. Next thing is using right amount of power. Put enough pressure on the gear pedal while changing gears. Do not press it like feather. Also do it fast enough with proper coordination between releasing clutch & gear shifting. Do not hold on clutch and change gear in  'ketchup slow' style. Everything is fine with this bike, just do it properly.

One more thing I should tell you; with every 100km it covers, it feels Gear Shifting is getting more and more smoother. Isn't that lovable or not…?!

I think, HERO should have included Gear info on Digital Panel. That could help, specially newbie riders who just learnt riding bikes with gears.

Another thing I love about this engine is its Sound.
It sounds sweet. Its smooth on ear. Until and unless you are revving it too hard or trying to play 'Need for Speed', you can easily overtake other vehicles without giving them any clue. Anything under 3000 RPM on your Speedo and it's like you are flying a Stealth Plane. Silent and sweet, like a Breeze. Using horn is a must if you are overtaking anyone on the road with low RPM (3000 or under).
